25 Year Term Life Insurance Birthday Benchmarks
Many people are under the impression that they can buy term life insurance at any stage in their life.
…and this is essentially true.
However, they are often under the misunderstanding that they can buy any length of term insurance regardless of age.
Unfortunately, this is not true. Every life insurance company has a cut-off point where certain term periods are no longer available. Key birthday thresholds also vary slightly from company to company.

This may give you a bit of latitude if you are looking for a new insurer and your current company will no longer sell you the term you need…but as you can see, time is of the essence when you are looking for life insurance at age 63.
You should be aware that every life insurance company has a predetermined cut-off point where specific term lengths are no longer available. Chris Huntley
You May Need More Life Insurance After Your Policy Expires
Lots of people purchase term life insurance in their youth.
This is a great idea because it’s super affordable when you are young and fit.
You’re also typically covered during the most vulnerable periods (think school and college age kids).
The thing is, we live a lot longer and have children later. So if you survive to the end of the 30 year term you purchased when you were 26 years old (which is very likely), you still have many years of livin’ that may need coverage.
Let’s use a specific example. The client referenced above is a 56 year old male looking for an additional 30 years of life insurance coverage before his 30 year term expires later this month.
He had kids in his late 40’s and at 56 he sees a long road of responsibilities ahead of him. Sadly, this gentleman will be turned down for a 30 year term policy by the just about every life insurance company out there.

Yep, you heard me right!
The majority of carriers have a cut-off of age 55. In fact, I only know of one company that currently provides a 30 year term policy up to and including age 58 (…psst lemme give you a little hint – it’s Transamerica).
As you can see, a little planning is needed if you want to maintain coverage in your later years.

You Should Pull the Trigger Now If You Need Life Insurance at Age 63, 64 or 65
So what’s so special about your 60’s?
Trying to buy life insurance when you are 63 years old is a whole different ballgame than when you were 35. If you just turned 63 or are approaching your 64th birthday and want a 25 year term you need to act now.
Age 63 is the cutoff for most life insurers when it comes to a 25 year term. Transamerica is the standout, offering a 25 year term up to age 65.
…but they are the only company.
Another little detail you need to consider is that although they may offer a 25 year term to someone who is 65 , you have to be less than 65.5 years of age to qualify. For life insurance purposes someone who is 65.5 is considered 66 years old and falls outside the offer.
Universal Life Insurance – Find Out More Now!
If you are sure you want a 25 year term, I highly suggest giving us a call before you turn 64 to avoid the hassle – and to obtain a more competitive rate!
For longer coverage, your only option at this point is a permanent life insurance policy, such as a guaranteed universal life. This type of policy doesn’t offer term periods so you are not obligated to buy coverage you for the rest of your life, which gives you a bit of flexibility.
However, the bad news is universal life insurance is going to be significantly more expensive. I’m talking “thousands” of dollars more!
The point I’m making, is if you are looking to buy life insurance at age 63 and need 25 years of coverage with the affordability of a term policy, call us today. We can help you find the best possible deal for your particular needs.
