Purchasing pet insurance is a great way to take some of the financial burden of owning a pet away. While it doesn’t cover everyday items like food, beds, and toys, it does reimburse for part of the vet costs if your dog or cat is injured or has an illness.
If you’re considering pet insurance in WA or any other state, there are two important factors to consider:
- No pet insurance company covers pre-existing conditions.
- Pet insurance is most affordable when your pet is young and healthy.
We looked at some of the top pet insurance companies offering coverage to compare costs. The breed of your cat or dog makes a difference, but so does their age when you get coverage. Here are some example rates for puppies under 2-years-old and rates for older dogs up to five-years-old.
Every company has their own take on deductibles, spending limits, reimbursement percentages, and coverages offered in each plan. Depending on where you live in WA state, you can find several options available for the best pet insurance to fit your specific needs.
Sample veterinary costs in Washington state
The high costs of certain health issues cause more than 50% of pet parents to consider euthanizing their pets. The #1 reason people purchase pet insurance in Washington and other states is to avoid having to make that decision just for financial purposes.

- Cancer: $4,000 to $20,000
- Hip Dysplasia: $3,000 to $6,000 per hip
- Luxating Patella: $1,250 to $3,000 per knee
- Paw injury: $1,000 to $5,000
