Travelex Travel Insurance Coverage & Plans
Travelex travel insurance offers two main policy types along with a laundry list of coverage add-ons that covers most major concerns for travelers.
For the budget-conscious traveler who only needs the essentials, the Travelex Basic Plan offers adequate coverage, while the Travel Select Plan offers a more comprehensive policy. Trip cancellation, baggage, and emergency medical are standard options in the travel insurance industry, and Travelex’s plans are no exception.
Many travel insurance plans also offer plans meant for groups, which Travelex does not currently have available.
Despite not offering an explicit group policy, Travelex travel insurance does include coverage for kids under the age of 17, when traveling with an adult family member, at no additional charge.
Depending on the plan and optional coverage you choose, your comprehensive policy will include the following:
- Trip cancellation/ Interruption
- Medical
- Baggage
- Accidental Death
Travelex Basic Plan
Perfect for budget travelers, the Travelex Basic Plan covers luggage, cancellation options, and medical coverage in an emergency.
Travelex also includes the preexisting exclusion waiver, financial default coverage, and cancellation for business reasons coverage automatically, and all of which are free of charge if you purchase the insurance within 15 days of booking your trip.
Even with the Basic Plan, you still can enhance your policy with collision coverage for rental cars as well as accidental death and dismemberment coverage.
Travelex Select Plan
Travelers looking for a more comprehensive travel policy will benefit from the Travelex Travel Select Plan. This policy has higher limits for baggage and medical coverage, as well as automatic coverage for cancellation due to business reasons.
In addition to the optional coverage offered with the Basic Plan, you may also choose to enhance your policy with sports coverage for activities like snowboarding and other high-risk pursuits, as well as additional medical coverage.
Other than individuals seeking a more comprehensive policy, the Select Plan also caters to families by automatically covering children under age 17, so long as they are traveling with a covered adult.

Travelex Travel Insurance Policy Add-ons
Travelex Travel Insurance offers a range of add-ons for consumers seeking the most comprehensive policy possible. Depending on the reasons for your trip, you may want to add some or all of the following upgrades:
Transportation Pak
The Travelex Transportation Pak covers two simple scenarios–aircraft accident damage and rental car collision. While flight accidents are rare, even a small parking lot fender bender can get costly.
Lifestyle Pak
The Lifestyle Pak is designed for travelers who want more security when they travel. You can add this pak to a Travel Select base plan to get higher medical coverage and some additional helpful services such as Identity Theft and Nurse Assist.
Active Family Pak
If your trip is delayed, but you chose the Active Family Pak, you can receive reimbursement for things such as kennel costs for your pet, unused college tuition, and movie tickets.
Adventurer Plus Pak
For travelers who enjoy partaking in extreme sports, the Adventurer Plus Pak is a must. This upgrade not only extends the underlying policy’s medical coverage to activities such as skydiving and bungee jumping, but also increases the medical limits and adds Search and Rescue coverage. The Adventure Plus Pak even provides a rental if the equipment you traveled with is lost or stolen.
Professional Pak
Travelex understands that not everyone is packing their suitcase for a long overdue vacation. For business travelers, Travelex offers the Professional Pak.
This business trip-centered coverage upgrade reimburses travelers for trip cancellation and interruptions due to business reasons, while also providing coverage for lost and stolen professional equipment.
If you’re delayed more than five hours, you can also receive reimbursement for internet usage fees.
How Much Does Travelex Travel Insurance Cost?
Travel insurance premiums can be directly affected by a wide range of factors. Usually, the price of your policy increases somewhat proportionally to the cost and duration of your trip.
You may also see an increase if you are an older traveler, and specific high-risk destinations may carry a higher premium for everyone.
Premiums for the underlying policy generally cost between 4 to 8 percent of the price of your trip.
Most of the optional coverage with Travelex has a flat rate. For example, Travelex’s Adventurer Plus and Active Family Pak each cost an additional $49.00, regardless of how many people are insured.
The exception to the flat rate for optional coverage is the Lifestyle Pak add-on, as the premium is directly dependent on the amount of coverage and the insured’s age.
Finding out exactly how much your travel insurance will cost is quick and simple with the online quote tool at the Travelex website, which can give an accurate quote in less time than it takes to read this review.
You can also view the breakdown of each plan’s coverage and exclusions, as well as their relevant costs and benefit limits.
If you plan on traveling with kids, the best option is the Travelex Travel Select Plan, which doesn’t charge anything extra for kids 17 and younger when traveling with a covered adult.
If you purchase a Travelex policy, but for any reason decide you want to cancel it and get your money back, you have 15 days to request a refund. You will receive your full policy premium as long as you have not departed yet for your trip.
